Join the Board or Committees
SOMA Families Meetup is a 501(c)7 nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers! There are many benefits to volunteering with SOMA Families Meetup. It’s a great opportunity to meet new local friends, and do something good for the community. Volunteering also allows you to propose and set up events on your schedule, and we offer a host discount when you are the main organizer of an event.

Board positions have been filled for this term, but descriptions of roles are below. Always feel free to reach out if you’re interested for the future!
Volunteer Opportunities
These volunteer opportunities do not require attending board meetings, and are flexible with time commitment.
Webmaster
The Webmaster can be a standalone volunteer, or any Board member can add these responsibilities to their role. They manage the SOMA Families website and publish the monthly newsletter via Squarespace.
Time commitment: 1-3hr flexible throughout the month
Events Committee
This committee is composed of volunteers, overseen by the VP of Events, to contribute to the planning and execution of SOMA Families events & programming.
Time commitment: Completely flexible—help with a single event, or lead and coordinate many!
Marketing Committee
This committee is composed of volunteers, overseen by the VP of Marketing, to contribute to SOMA Families marketing & social media efforts.
Time commitment: TBD—one push early in the month to schedule posts for upcoming events; ad-hoc marketing as new events are added.
We strive to create a Board that reflects the communities we serve; we continue to build an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our towns.
Annual board terms run from July 1–June 30.

The following board positions are already filled for the current term:
President
The president generally directs the operations and mission of the Board. They run board meetings, approve all expenditures, and respond to external email.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 4-5hr flexible throughout the month
VP of Events
The VP of Events oversees the events calendar and helps event hosts coordinate planning, posting, and logistics for events. They oversee and delegate to the Events Committee.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 5-9hr flexible throughout the month
Treasurer
The treasurer maintains SOMA Families’ accounting records and prepares the annual budget with input from the Board. They handle monthly financial statements and account reconciliations, and annual nonprofit filing.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 2-3hr monthly for account reconciliation
Secretary
The Secretary manages the Board meeting schedule and maintains minutes and other Board files and documentation.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 2-3hr flexible throughout the month
VP of Membership
The VP of Membership maintains accurate membership records, reviews all new member requests within 48 hrs, ensures payment of membership dues, and removes members as necessary.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 2-3hr distributed evenly throughout the month
VP of Marketing
The VP of Marketing manages SOMA Families’ social media accounts and other promotions, and responds to messages and comments on social media, and drafts the monthly newsletter. They oversee and delegate to the Marketing Committee.
Time commitment: 1 board meeting per month + 2-3hr flexible throughout the month
All board members attend a monthly board meeting (1-2hr) and are expected to coordinate, volunteer at, or attend several SOMA Families events throughout the year.
